8th GRADE VOLLEYBALL REGIONAL CHAMPS!

The 8th grade volleyball team won Thursday night against Lincoln Jr. High School. The team played solid and won 2 very close games...28-26 and 25-23. Awesome job girls - way to work hard and play our game. The girls travel to Assumption Monday night, March 15th, at 6:00pm to play for Sectional Champs. Thanks to the fans tonight...you were great!

Walk/Run this Sunday- T-Shirts are in!!

Many of you have signed up to run or walk this Sunday in the St. Patrick’s Day event at the VFW. If you are still interested in participating you can click on the link to sign up and find out all the information regarding the race. If you ordered a t-shirt they just came in!!! You can pick up your shirt in the high school office today or tomorrow. The back of the shirts say that we will be running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We encourage you to make a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by clicking on the link and then click on make a donation. You can simply put Tri-Valley in the company field so our school is recognized for our donations. This donation is separate from the run/walk entrance free. After the event the Dashers will be meeting at Joe's Station House Pizza Pub (305 Veterans Parkway, Normal). We look forward to seeing you on March 14th!!

Knights of Columbus Fish Fry This Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Downs
The Knights of Columbus will be putting on their 16th Annual Fish Fry this Friday (March 12) from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the basement of St. Mary's Catholic Church. The menu will include the following: walleye and / or catfish, cole slaw, french fries, homemade desserts, grilled cheese sandwich, and drinks. The cost will be $ 7.00 for adults, $ 3.00 for children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. There will also be an additional fish fry on Friday (March 26).

In response to the lack of funding from the State of Illinois and the resulting reductions affecting Tri-Valley, it has been asked if we would post the following information on the school website. First is a letter from concerned parents to all parents and community members. The second is a calling script and the third is entitled Unprecedented Times. This explains what is occurring and why. Parents Help Needed!
PARENTS building SAFE ROUTES for their children. 10 minutes for survey!
The Tri-Valley School District along with the Village of Downs has made the decision to engage this federally supported program which begins with the community encouraging students to walk or ride bicycles to school and ends with positive results for all. Like most things, anything that is good for our students and our community takes some work and support.

This program can:

Provide funds for infrastructure improvements such as new sidewalks, bike paths and crosswalks for all children.
Increase safety by providing funds to plan routes, install flashing lights, put up new signs, and fund crossing guards.
Improve health through increased physical activity, decreased traffic congestion, and less pollution.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
In the month of March, please visit the Safe Routes to School website to learn about the history, and benefits of this program.
Toward the end of March, please look for instructions to complete the Parent Survey.

This survey will be accessible via the Tri-Valley website beginning April 1, 2010 through April 15, 2010. This will take about 10 minutes and the information is critical for us to get started.

Haiti Benefit Concert a Success!

Jordan Reiners and Tylor Fisher started with an idea to help raise money for Haiti and they just ran with it! More than 200 Tri-Valley students, parents and students from area schools attended the concert on Friday night. Five local high school bands performed along with an impromptu performance by our own Elliot Evenson. A big thank you goes out to all of the students and parents involved with making this event a success. It was truly a team effort. More than $1700 was raised through entrance fees, t-shirt sales, a raffle and concessions. Thank you again to everyone who helped make this fun event a success!

TVHS - After School Study Hall!

8th Grade Scholastic Bowl
The 8th graders were behind in the beginning but then pulled ahead for a big win at Cornerstone Christian Academy! Our team captains were Christy Dail and Jake Rice. Those with high RBIs (Right Buzz Ins) this evening were Brandon Bakewell and Nick Saulcy. Way to go eighth graders! Our next practice is Monday after school. Our next meet is Tuesday, March 16th, at home and we will face Holy Trinity.

CRAZY Chemistry IWU Style!!

4th & 6th Graders were lucky science observers as the IWU Chemistry Club performed various change of state experiments. They watched a rubber racket ball shatter, flowers crumble to dust, fluorescent play dough & tonic water were "excited" with lasers turning colors and pennies were turned to gold (brass)!! These classes and Mrs. Elhoff wish to thank the IWU chemistry department for a fantastic show and hope they will come again next year!!

Congratulations Art Students, Morgan Campbell and Erica Covarrubias, Award Winners in 82th Annual MCAC Art Show
Every year I choose artwork to take into the Annual Amateur Art Competition knowing that the vast majority of the work will be rejected. We compete against all of Bloomington/ Normal and surrounding area rural schools and there is a very large volume of work submitted. Out of the 169 high school works submitted, 36 were chosen for the show. This year we entered a variety of work from sculpture to painting. The following students submitted their artworks: Blaise McNesse, Hannah Lessen (2), Sam Kresz, Morgan Campbell (2), Cami Wickenhauser, Marie DeWerff, Rachel Heying, Dalton Balagna, Erica Covarrubias, Anastasia Senko, and Chris Peterson. Please congratulate Blaise, Morgan (2 pieces), Erica, and Cami for having their work accepted for the show. The opening and awards were Sunday and two of our students received 2nd place ribbons. A total of eight ribbons and cash prizes were given to high school students. Congratulate Morgan Campbell and Erica Covarrubias for their accomplishments. The Art Center is located on East Street across the street from the Bloomington Performing Arts Center. You can see the artwork on display through April.

Josh Johnson Advances to State in Wrestling
Josh Johnson advances to Freshman/Sophomore State wrestling this weekend by placing 3rd in regionals and 3rd in sectionals at 130lbs. He will be competing on Sat. in Springfield.He is the only 1A wrestler to make it at this weight to the finals.Good Luck at state.

KINDERGARTEN AND PRESCHOOL SCREENING

7th Grade Scholastic Bowl
The seventh grade team had a great come from behind second half ! The score at the half was Cornerstone - 152, Tri-Valley-81. With one question remaining in the match ,the score was tied,152-152. Cornerstone correctly fielded the last question to win the match. What a great effort seventh graders !! Our next practice is Monday at 3:15. We will prepare for another busy week. Tuesday, we face Holy Trinity, at home.

FACULTY PLAY THIS WEEKEND
Join us for the annual Faculty Play this Friday & Saturday. Performances begin at 7.30 p.m. each evening. This year's show includes 2 one-act plays. "Cinderella Wore Combat Boots" takes a fresh look at the well-known fairy tale. The cast includes Barb Pearson as the Storyteller/Fairy Godmother; Jared Johnson as the Kin...g; Bryan Corn as the Prince; Gena Calhoun & Lee Harper as the Stepsisters; Pam Stone as the Stepmother; Tomma Bone as the Page; and Jenn Corn as Cinderella (combat boots courtesy of Danny Otto). "Take Five" features a group of actors (Barb Pearson, Jeff Boward, Ellie Wertz) who are trying to perform a play...but with two inept stagehands (The Steve Stark, Denise O'Brien) and an audience member who keeps interrupting (Jeff Benter), at times one must question if the show will go on. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students (through high school) and are available at the door beginning one-half hour before curtain.

Stephanie Brown Qualifies for NCAA Indoor Nationals

FAYETTEVILLE - The NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Committee has released the accepted entries list for the 2010 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, at Fayetteville's Randal Tyson Track Center, March 12-13.
On the women's side, Arkansas will be represented by four individuals in three individual events. Junior Shelise Williams will run the 400 meters, freshman Stephanie Brown will run the 800 meters and sophomore Tina Sutej and senior Katie Stripling will compete in the pole vault. Williams is No. 2 in her event, Brown 10th and the vaulters rank No. 2 and No. 6, respectively.
The NCAA Championships will be held Fri.-Sat., March 12-13, at Fayetteville's Randal Tyson Track Center. ESPN360.com will stream the championships live beginning at 8 p.m. CST on Fri., March 12 and 6:10 p.m. CST on Sat., March 13. NCAA.com and ArkansasRazorbacks.com will stream supplemental coverage as available when ESPN360.com is not live. Live results can be found at ArkansasRazorbacks.com. ESPN2 will air a 90-minute show at 12:30 p.m. CST, Wed., March 17.

TVMS History Fair Night on Monday (March 15) 5:00 - 6:30 PM
The Tri-Valley 7th Grade will be hosting their History Fair Night on Monday (March 15) from 5:00 - 6:30 PM in the middle school library and surrounding hallway. The students have been working for the past six weeks researching and constructing their Illinois History Fair Projects. They will be displaying 54 exhibits on local or state history. Come out and enjoy the hard work of our award winning students. Those students who rate an A or a B grade will move on to the regional competition at EIU Charleston on Saturday (March 27th). Following the History Fair will be a 5th & 6th Grade Band and Choral Concert at 7:00 PM. There will be a meal sponsored by PTO during the fair and leading up to the concert. More details on that to follow later.

No Comment the A Capella group was such a hit with the audience Saturday night during the Variety Show that I thought I’d provide some more information. You can go to this site and purchase their current CD. The money they make will be used to produce a new CD this year. Robb Erlenbush, the Tri-Valley High School Graduate, who stole the show, will have one or two solos on the new CD. The current CD is great. They can view Robb and the group singing if they go to YouTube.com and enter Nicklvr1023 We're Going Their next performance will be Friday, April 9th at Gregory Hall located on the U of I Quad.

Study Island Graduates
Tri-Valley Middle School fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students have been using the Study Island software to help prepare them for ISAT testing. The goal of Study Island is to have students pass every topic that they will be tested on during ISAT testing. Students that passed every topic were: Lucas Hari, Jack Stewart, Brock Ward, Kevin O'Donnell, Cody Steiner, Kylie Bays, Chloe Kroeger, and Justin Bean from fourth grade; Sydney Bedillion, Delaney Knecht, Travis Zook, Ryan Schmidt, Kai Kastor, Lindsay Ring, Seth Nevius, Natalie Tagala, Lauren O'Donnell, Jenna Ring, Delaney O'Rourke, Ashley Carr, Jared Lauritson, Joel Reiners, Sadie Sottos, Hayden Walker, and Dresden Dixon from fifth grade; Sonny Podlesnik and Jonathan Kothe from sixth grade. These students were recognized in the ILS lab for passing this challenging set of tests.

Summer High School Research Program for Juniors
The American Cancer Society, Illinois Division offers an integrated Summer Research Program designed for high school students in their junior year (Class of 2011). The major objective of the program is to introduce students to scientific cancer research. This program will help students develop their own philosophy in biophysics, biochemistry, immunology, and pharmacology, as well as gain an understanding of cancer and its impact on Illinois residents. Students will work in a cancer research laboratory under an established investigator. The closest laboratory to you is at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, under the prestigious Dr Jasti Rao. Selected participants will receive a $2000 stipend. ELIGIBILITY Current junior standing (member of the Class of 2011) Demonstrates strong ability in math and science Interested in pursuing a career in science or medicine Minimum GPA of 3.0 in core subjects Legally eligible to work in the United States DEADLINE for Applications is March 22nd, 2010. Normal CornBelters partner with Tri-Valley Baseball and Academic Booster Club for Tri-Valley night at the ballpark!

Come out and see former Tri-Valley standout Jack Mikel and help Tri-Valley Baseball and Academic Booster Club on June 15th! This date is valid for the kids earning reading club coupons. For every $10 Box Seat purchased, the Tri-Valley Baseball and Academic Booster Club receive $1 each towards their organizations! If 300 tickets are sold, Tri-Valley Baseball Team will have the opportunity to play 2 games at the Corn Crib for the Field of Dreams program. In addition, the Tri-Valley musicians will be in attendance singing the National Anthem and playing on the concourse throughout the game! A local celebrity will be throwing out the first pitch!
