7th Grade Volleyball Remain Successful at Home!
Our 7th Grade Lady Vikings remained undefeated at home with a solid win against Ridgeview Monday night in 2 sets, 25-10 and 25-10. This may sound like a broken record, but all the ladies contributed in the 2 sets. Serving was strong, passing stayed solid, and we are seeing a few more clean kills and better blocking. I asked almost everyone to serve to a particular zone, and they are getting much better at hitting those zones. Whatever I challenge them with, they respond! I'm so proud of them! (have I said that before??) Our next match is against Bloomington, at BJHS, Wednesday night. This will be another great challenge and the ladies are looking forward to it! We hope you can make it to this 4:30 match!

Transfer Explanation
In answer to a couple of inquiries that I have received on the transfer of money from the Education Fund to the Operation and Maintenance Fund, I would like to give an explanation. Back in November the Board approved the refinancing of existing middle school bonds. The purpose of this was to add an addition at the middle school and renovate the 1955 addition of the elementary school. The amount of those bonds was $3.1 million dollars. These were issued in the form of Working Cash Bonds for Capital Improvements. In order to use these funds for the building project, they first had to be moved from the Working Cash Fund (where they were issued) to the Education Fund. From the Education Fund they have to be moved to the Operation and Maintenance Fund. The next step is to move the money from Operations and Maintenance Fund to the Capital Projects Fund. This process takes about three months to complete and is according to what the law dictates. You want this money in the Capital Projects fund for two reasons. First, that is what the money was intended to do (add on at the middle school and renovate the 1955 wing of the elementary building) and second, if you leave it in the Operations and Maintenance Fund and spend it there, it will be recorded as deficit spending. The question will be asked, “Are you moving education fund money”? That is a great question. The answer to that question is no. The money that is being moved is the $3.1 million bond refinancing as mentioned above. The other thing about this money is that it was refinanced for capital improvements. So, it can’t be used for expenses in the education fund, only for capital improvements. So, it has to eventually be moved to that fund for its use. Another question that will be asked will be, “How can you build an addition and renovate when money is tight”? This, too, is a great question. The answer is that these funds are separate from the areas that are affected by a lack of funding from the state. Please call if you have questions. I am happy to answer any that you may have.
For more information, contact Curt Simonson.
