Tri-Valley High School will host its first-ever Tackling Disabilities football camp on July 15 from 9:30–11 a.m., bringing a growing and impactful event to the Bloomington-Normal area for the first time.
Now in its fourth year overall, Tackling Disabilities has continued to expand across the region. What began as a single camp has grown into three locations this summer — Manteno, Watseka, and now Tri-Valley — all centered around creating an inclusive, fun experience for students with physical and intellectual disabilities.
The camp is open to all students entering grades K–12, regardless of school district. Families are encouraged to attend whichever location works best for them. Registration for Tri-Valley's camp is completed online through a link provided by organizers.
At the heart of the camp is a simple but powerful idea: connection. Each camper is paired with at least one football player who stays with them throughout the entire event, moving together from station to station. Activities include throwing and catching, games, and skill stations — all designed with fun, encouragement, and participation in mind.
The role of the student-athletes goes beyond football. Their focus is to build relationships, create confidence, and ensure each camper has a positive and memorable experience.
Siblings, cousins, and friends are welcome to attend alongside campers if it helps them feel more comfortable. Parents are also encouraged to take a step back, relax, and allow the athletes to lead and support their child during the camp.
Organizers emphasize that no football experience is necessary. The event is not about performance or skill level, but about creating a space where every participant feels included and valued.
As Tackling Disabilities continues to grow, the addition of Tri-Valley represents another step in expanding opportunities for connection and community across central Illinois.
